Westminster Bookstore has the Banner of Truth edition of Edwards’s Charity and Its Fruits on clearance for $9.50 (50% off). This is a great price on a wonderful work.

Charity and Its Fruits is a sermon series on 1 Corinthians 13, and is one of the few series that Edwards preached during his career. The final installment in the fifteen-sermon series is one of the most remarkable sermons that Edwards preached. “Heaven is a World of Love” is described by Paul Ramsey, editor of volume eight in the Yale Works of Jonathan Edwards series, in this way: “[It is] Edwards’ remarkable glorification of divine love in every respect: perfect love for one another in indefectible love to God…The rhetorical power of this last sermon is rivaled only by his other ‘virtuoso performance,’ ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.’”

Because this title is on clearance, there are only so many copies available, so act quickly!

Usually, when someone mentions the Yale Press editions of the Works of Jonathan Edwards, there is much hemming and hawing about the prohibitive pricing of them. Most volumes, at list price, are over $100. Enter eBay.

Right now, eBay seller bangzo_books (go ahead and laugh) has 14 Yale volumes (over half of the full set) priced at either $49.22 or $53.01. Making this deal even sweeter, the seller has around 30 copies of each volume! Shipping prices are also very reasonable, although shipping from this seller does take some time. It’s worth it, though, to get these volumes at such unbelievable prices.

If you don’t know where to start or are wondering what the one volume you should get is, my recommendation would be Volume 2, Edwards’s Religious Affections. This treatise is a must read for those interested in Edwards, and the editor’s introduction is quite helpful

Monergism.com, who often has amazing deals on solid books, is offering Richard Muller’s magisterial Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmatics at $79, 61% off the $200 list price. This is a very important set as it seeks to demonstrate the development of theology in the latter part of the sixteenth and on into the seventeenth centuries. For the study of Edwards, this set would be invaluable in its presentation of the theological situation that Edwards would be born into in 1703. Little work has been done to show the influence of Post-Reformation Continental Reformed Theology on Edwards’s thought, and Muller’s set would be a very useful secondary source in such ventures. Here’s a brief look at what each volume contains:

Volume One: Prolegomena to Theology, introduces the study of Protestant scholasticism. Muller defines theology and religion and discusses several aspects of theology as they were understood in the post-Reformation era, including its divisions, object and genus, and fundamental principles.

Volume Two: Holy Scripture, examines post-Reformation understandings of Scripture as the word of God, its divinity, its properties, the integrity of the canon, and its interpretation.

Volume Three: The Divine Essence and Attributes, examines post-Reformation theology on the unity of God’s existence, God’s divine essence and attributes, and divine will. Included is an analysis of the doctrine of God from the twelfth to the early eighteenth century.

Volume Four: The Triunity of God, examines the doctrine of the Trinity, including unity and distinction in the Trinity as they were understood in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and addresses the deity and person of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Monergism.com is running a special on the Hendrickson edition of the 2 volume Works of Jonathan Edwards. This set is helpful in aggregating many of Edwards’s best-known works in just two volumes, and can be perfect for those wanting to get a broad sense of his thought. However, if you decide to get this set, you might also want to invest in a magnifying glass as the text is pretty small!
