Miscellany Mondays
Starting this coming Monday, April 20, a new weekly series will debut here on A Divine and Supernatural Light. It’s well-known that Jonathan Edwards had a series of notebooks which he used as a sort of intellectual journal. These notebooks contained entries in which Edwards would opine on various topics, usually as a result of conversations with others or the reading he was currently engaged in. These topics were quite broad, although a large number of entries would provide the basic foundation for his greatest theological and philosophical works. “The Miscellanies,” as these notebook entries are collectively called, provide a unique look into the mind of Jonathan Edwards and help us better understand his method in theological and philosophical formation.
Because of the significance of these writings, Mondays will now be deemed Miscellany Mondays at this blog. Each Monday there will be a piece on an individual miscellany from Edwards’s notebooks. Sometimes this may just include the full text of the miscellany (with proper citations, of course), sometimes there may be an essay expounding on the themes or significance of the miscellany in view.
I look forward to exploring these texts and sharing them with those who may happen upon this blog. Hopefully they can spark some further discussion, so please join us every week for Miscellany Mondays.
