John Piper on the Works of Jonathan Edwards Online

February 18, 2009

John Piper, founder of Desiring God Ministries and pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN, recently wrote a brief article extolling the laborious work of the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University.  Piper describes the meaning and great value in making the twenty-six print volumes of the Works of Jonathan Edwards, as well as nearly fifty additional “online only” volumes, available for free and in digital format.

Speaking of the religious significance of this work, Piper states,

The reason all this matters is not merely that Edwards is the poster boy of intellectual American Historians, but, even more importantly, that, using the lens of Scripture, he saw and believed and described the greatest realities in the universe in ways that few of us would ever see on our own. He saw Jesus Christ through whom and for whom all things exist. And he saw the Gospel—that Christ died for our sins and rose again to be Lord of all.

Edwards appreciators and scholars everywhere should join with Dr. Piper in extreme gratitude for the work of the JEC.  It truly is a wonderful, timely, and unimaginable gift.
